Frakem was selected as one of the top 1000 business ideas in Africa by Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) 2016. TEEP, a flagship programme of The Tony Elumelu Foundation, is a Naira 17bn (US$100m equivalent) initiative to support emerging entrepreneurs across Africa over 10 years, aiming to generate a projected $10bn in revenues for the Continent and one new million jobs for its citizens. The 2015 round drew over 20,000 applicants from 51 countries and has created partnerships with entrepreneurs, the private sector and governments across Africa and internationally.

In 2016, Over 45,000 entrepreneurs from 54 African countries applied, more than doubling the number of applications received in 2015. Successful candidates represent diverse industries, led by agriculture, ICT and fashion. According to Tony Elumelu, Founder TEF: “In TEEP’s first year we spent over $8 million of our $100 million commitment – with $5 million going directly to entrepreneurs as seed capital — and the results have far exceeded our expectations. We have funded entrepreneurs, established networks and helped extraordinary people take control of their destinies.” “The 2016 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurs will become a generation of newly empowered African business owners, who are the clearest evidence yet, that indigenous business growth will drive Africa’s economic and social transformation.”

The final winners were selected from 53 African countries with the highest number of applicants from Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda and Cameroon.
